Welcome to St. Catherine's
Well, it looks like I survived my first week at St. Catherine’s! I have enjoyed meeting those I have met so far in the parish, and I have had several productive meetings that are helping me settle in and find my bearings as we begin to move forward together. It was especially good to meet Natasha Stegemann in the office and our new communications coordinator Kingsley Genaille. Read more about Kingsley in their words of introduction posted below. I also had a very informative and productive meeting with former treasurer Gordon Lee, who has brought me up to speed on the financial aspects of the parish. I also met with Heather Luccock, Lynn Spence, Natasha and Kingsley to begin planning our program for Holy Week and Easter, beginning with Palm Sunday on April 13. There will be a Maundy Thursday service at 6pm on April 17when we commemorate the first Last Supper. On Good Friday (April 18), there will be a “Meditation on the Cross” at 12 noon focusing on a photograph taken by Heather Luccock of the “Cross of Nails” at Coventry Cathedral in England. Hot cross buns will be served after the service. At 5pm on Holy Saturday (April 19), we will be kindling the Easter fire in the fire pit and celebrating the new life of the resurrection. Smores may be involved! The celebration of the resurrection then continues with our regular Holy Eucharist at 10am on Easter Sunday. But before we get ahead of ourselves, I look forward to seeing everyone who will be in church this Sunday for the Third Sunday of Lent, which includes readings from Isaiah. 55:1-9, Psalm 63:1-8, and the poem “Hoping Against Hope” by Jan Richardson. Our Gospel reading is Luke 13:1-9 in which Jesus invites us to reflect on how we respond to accidents and other misfortunes that may impact our lives. One of my fitness instructors this week invited the class to ask each other if we felt lucky. Do you feel lucky? She then asked us if we felt lucky or blessed? Lucky or blessed? She then asked us the difference between feeling lucky and feeling blessed. So, what would you say? Do you feel lucky or blessed? And what would you say is the difference? That’s enough for now. Read on to find out more about Kingsley. Elbows Up! Angus
