On June 21st, we celebration National Indigenous Peoples Day, a significant celebration honoring the heritage, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples. The day serves not only to celebrate Indigenous culture but also to raise awareness about the history and ongoing issues faced by Indigenous communities in Canada.
Here are some ways on how us Christians can show our support to our Indigenous Peoples:

Land Acknowledgment and Recognition: To acknowledge Indigenous peoples, we can start by learning about their cultures, histories, and current issues. Practice land acknowledgements in speeches and events, support Indigenous-led initiatives and businesses, advocate for Indigenous rights and sovereignty, and engage in meaningful dialogue to promote understanding and reconciliation.

Pray: Prayer is a language understood across cultures, and it is believed that Christ encourages us to pray for ongoing healing. On June 23rd, Sunday, we will have a traditional service. We gather and join our prayers with members of our church community, members of Tsleil Waututh Nation and people of many faiths who are praying for the waters at Whey-ah-Wichen.

Take Actions:  In celebration of Indigenous People's Day, let's honor and uplift these communities together. Here are some ways to gift a gift to the Indigenous Church:

1.) Indigenous Ministries in the self-determining Indigenous church in the Anglican church of Canada through https://www.anglican.ca/giving/givenow/.

2.) The Urban Aboriginal Ministry. UAM is a ministry of the Anglican church in the Metro Vancouver Area that provides practical and cultural support and community to First Nations people and their loved ones, particularly those living away from their traditional territories. UAM was founded by Rev. Vivian Seegers and is now run by her son Steven Seegerts. You can donate here https://www.vancouver.anglican.ca/donate and in the box that says “to” choose Urban Aboriginal Ministry.

Let's promote understanding and reconciliation, and actively contribute to building stronger relationships based on respect and justice.
