Our Mission: To offer welcoming places where food and community meet
________________________________________
Prior to the incorporation of this non-profit society, there was no place on the North Shore where community members could gather and linger over a delicious meal served to them by friendly volunteers. Our guests are new Canadians, homeless, folks on disability pensions, families and young people, seniors, veterans and those dealing with social isolation caused by disabilities, poverty and/or addictions. Those who can donate something towards their meal are invited to do so; those who don’t are graciously welcomed.
We are in our fifth year of serving a weekly lunch, second year of a weekly dinner and second year of a Senior’s lunch program. Our North Shore programs are located in churches along the Lonsdale corridor as they have kitchens and halls to use as dining rooms. Our Seschelt program provides a Community Kitchen helping folks who are challenged prepare and enjoy a weekly meal together. We serve over 600 meals per month with no paid staff. Two of our chefs/program managers are on contract. We actively solicit donations of food from various sources to keep our costs as low as possible.
Support is needed to help cover the costs not met by donations. Costs include supplies, equipment and food needed to provide our programs. Our team of volunteers with a heart for making the community a kinder place can take it from there.
