Dear Members and Friends of St. Catherine’s Church,

We are excited to attempt the Virtual Congregational Recording of Silent Night project!  It would be so nice to see the whole congregation sing together (virtually) during this very different Christmas Eve Service.

Below is a description of the process required to make this happen. For your convenience there will be two options for the process:

Option 1:  Recorded at the church by appointment 

No recording equipment or skills needed. Please email Siiri at rebanesiiri@gmail.com for a time to record. 

Preparation - For practicing the song you will need:

(1) The audio backing track:

This is the backing track you will use to guide your singing during the recording and practicing. 

Please pick the part you would like to sing (soprano, alto, tenor or bass) and use that particular file.

Click on the part you will sing:     Soprano     Alto     Tenor     Bass 

Instrumentalists – please feel free to play any of the parts of the carol (you can play different parts for different verses).

Option 2:  Record your own singing

A: Preparation - For practicing and recording you will need:

(1) The audio backing track 

This is the backing track you will use to guide your singing during the recording. 

Please pick the part you would like to sing (soprano, alto, tenor or bass) and use that particular file.

      Click on the part you will sing:    Soprano     Alto     Tenor     Bass 

Instrumentalists – please feel free to play any of the parts of the carol (you can play different parts for different verses)

There will be a short lead in (In German) for your reference – you will start with your first verse right after that. 

You can use it to practice the song.

(2) You will need two electronic devices.

First device to play the backing track (Device One) 

Best option: this should be a computer with either headphones or ear buds. (More on that later)

Second device to make the recording (Device Two)

Best option: your smartphone

(3) Sheet music

B. The Recording Process:

  • Set your “Device One” (your computer, phone or tablet) to play the audio file through headphones
  • Set your “Device Two” (best if it’s a phone) to Sound recording.
  • First tap to start recording (device two)
  • Second tap/play the audio backing track
  • Sing the whole song
  • Tap stop on the recording when you have finished
  • Repeat the process if you don’t like the results!
  • Take a photo of yourself singing and holding a candle (if possible)
  • Send your recording file along with your picture with you singing and holding a candle to Siiri at rebanesiiri@gmail.com. Please include your name in the file name.

Deadline for the recordings and photos — please aim for December 15th.
