Steve Jackson is Member at Large on the Parish Council, a choir member under the tutelage of Siiri Rebane, and a valued member of St. Catherine's gardening crew - along with Mary Savage and Phil Severy. Thanks to Kirsty Milligan for continuously developing and caring for the gardens for some years, and to Esad Ramadanovic for his landscaping work.
Steve writes:
St. Catherine’s MemorialGarden is a place of peace, a final resting place for many parishioners. It is also a place where many people come to reflect and enjoy the flowers and plants. Parents with their children walking to and from school - many people stop by to look at the garden on their daily walks. Cyclists stop to peer over the hedges. It is a point of interest for all these people and just one of the beautiful spaces we at St. Catherine’s treasure.
The memorial garden changes with the seasons. Spring, summer, fall and winter plants grow and thrive here. It represents the lives of our parish. Beyond the garden we tend the south slope where wild roses bloom.
Keeping the parking lot clean, and making sure the entrance ways to the church remain tidy, are also jobs I enjoy here. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity assist John Luccock in maintaining our grounds at St. Catherine's. Thank you, John!
Finally, I pay my respects to the late Archbishop David Somerville, a parishioner whose remains were interred in the MemorialGarden in August, 2011. He preached the homily at my father, Robert Jackson’s funeral.
