"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." - Matthew 18:20
St. Catherine's Anglican Church welcomed in the new month with love, laughter, and worship over sumptuous food to celebrate Canada Day after an inspiring service last July 2nd on the Ridgewood Patio.
Fête du Canada is Canada's national day, commemorating the unification of the three North American British colonies into one confederation. Today we endeavour to celebrate as a unified Canada, together with First Nation Peoples.
The members of the community and parishioners gathered at 10 a.m. at the church for Morning Prayer to reflect on being Christ followers in Canada, presided by the Reverend Sharon Smith.
The service was followed by a delicious lunch on the Ridgwood Patio that was adorned with Canadian flags, prepared by the members of the community, spearheaded by Vivian McGie. Salads, and desserts were brought by the people who attended the gathering. Vivian's friend, Anna, kindly transported the rotisserie chickens from Thrifty Foods to the venue after the morning prayer service. Surplus chickens were gifted to several parishioners by donation. The chicken carcasses will be made into soup by Anna for future events at the North Vancouver Seniors' Hub. Members of the community bonded over food, tea, and coffee, and a great sense of camaraderie was fostered.
Marymil Cabrera, the new Community Engagement Coordinator was also introduced to the community highlighting her volunteer experience in church outreach events in the Philippines, as well as her vision for St. Catherine's Anglican Church, aligned with the church's mission, vision, and values.
The celebration is not only to commemorate Canada Day but also to give thanks and worship the Eternal Giver.
A sincere thank you to all people who brought delicious salads, and desserts, and helped to make it a great Canada Day celebration.
