On October 7th, Saturday, 76 people (including volunteers) gathered together for A Table For All: Saint Catherine's Thanksgiving Meal, a family-style event held at Saint Catherine's Anglican Church.
In the past, Saint Catherine's community members organized Thanksgiving dinner offered a meal to as many people as possible who were in need in the North Shore. What a gift we gave in the years gone by to so many in need in the North Shore. However, this year, we are embracing the idea of a family-style meal, where forming relationships is as important as offering food.
Instead of dinner, the event started at noon with lunch served at 1 p.m. to offer a better convenience to attendees and us, as hosts. It also eliminates the need for late-night travel, ensuring that volunteers, organizers, and attendees can return home safely and comfortably.
The special event was filled with warmth, love, and laughter, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come. The hard work and dedication put forth by each community member made the occasion truly special. It started with an inspiring welcoming address by the Rev. Sharon Smith followed by a blessing.
While waiting for the lunch to be served, kids at heart enjoyed crafting and creating masterpieces at the arts and crafts table facilitated by our Sunday School Teacher, Shaunti. The art and craft supplies were provided by our community member Marion of St. Catherine's Childcare Society. On the other hand, the others took joy in the beautiful music played by Mermi.
The delicious aroma of roasted turkey, stuffings, gravy, cranberry sauce and mashed potato prepared by Tomahawk Restaurant; salads and pies prepared by the community members; coffee from Delany's Coffee House; and buns from COBS Bread Bakery then filled the air as everyone gathered around the table.
As everyone sat down to enjoy the meal, the room was brimming with gratitude and appreciation. Everyone took a moment to reflect on all the blessings in our lives and express our gratitude for the opportunity to come together as a community.
Throughout the meal, guests indulged in the scrumptious meal while connecting with new and old folks.
The Thanksgiving Meal would not be possible without the efforts and dedication of the people who volunteered and donated. The celebration was a testament to the power of coming together as a community and celebrating the blessings in our lives.
