Jesus meets a woman – bent out of shape by years of societal rejection, religious rules, patriarchal oppression and a physical ailment. Jesus meets her just where she is, empowers her, and then confronts the voices of tradition and orthodoxy that have become voices of legalism, self-righteousness, and exclusivism. He models love and he calls us into a vision of community – seeing humanity as one – for this bent woman too is part of the Religious community - a daughter of Abraham.
