-------
With grieving hearts, John (Wendy) Whittaker, Sue (John) McMordie and Peggy (Peter) Trendell-Jensen announce the death of their mother, Chris Trendell, who has been for them a constant source of joy, laughter, kindness, wisdom, strength and inspiration.

Her parents Alick and Etta Trendell raised Mom to love both God and neighbour, and she did both with gusto, common sense, and good humour.  On top of caring for us with our father Harry Whittaker, teaching in learning assistance centres in the North Vancouver School District, and, later, being an active, hands-on grandma and “GMa” to her wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren,

Mom spent thousands of volunteer hours directing at Camp Artaban, aiding abuse victims, settling refugees, teaching Tai Chi, marching for peace and for reconciliation, protecting the planet, and making the world better wherever she turned.

She was a welcoming presence whose door was always open, right until her last moments, and she lifted hearts wherever she went. Always an adventurer, Mom used her retirement to walk across England and drive across Canada, camping in her car along the way.

We are so grateful for the exceptional, compassionate care Mom was given over the course of her short illness with cancer, and the wise guidance we were offered by the North Shore Palliative Care team.

We ask you to hold in your hearts and prayers all who continue to mourn, including her sister Mary, brother David, beloved companion, Larry Lewis, and longtime friend and neighbour Martha Wright.

Those who wish to make a donation in Mom’s memory are invited to consider Camp Artaban or the refugee fund managed by St. Agnes’ Anglican Church in North Vancouver.

Mom’s funeral will be on Saturday, August 28 at 2 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Anglican Church, 1058 Ridgewood Dr., North Vancouver (masks indoors required).

Those unable to attend are invited to the livestream on the Events page of the church website.
